Jan Geert Vierkant new managing director Metropole Orkest
As of 1 February 2017 Metropole Orkest will have a new managing director. Jan Geert Vierkant is to succeed Marc Altink, who has led the Metropole Orkest through one of the most turbulent periods in the orchestra’s history. Partially thanks to Altink’s efforts great achievements were celebrated, now it is up to Vierkant to further build the artistic profile of the orchestra.
Jan Geert Vierkant: “Metropole Orkest is a unique player in the international cultural world. I consider it a great honor to be appointed this position. In recent years, Metropole Orkest has had some impressive successes: It won a Grammy, the development of teaching method ‘Metropole op School’ (now being used by 100,000 pupils), being awarded the Edison Oeuvre Award. I look forward to building on these successes. There’s the issue of new subvention cuts and major shifts are happening in the cultural field, but I am strongly committed to address these challenges.”
Marc Altink, current director of the Metropole Orkest: “We are delighted with the arrival of Jan Geert Vierkant. He will continue to lead the Metropole Orkest into a more stable future. It is comforting to know that he can build onto the new foundation chief conductor Jules Buckley and the orchestra have laid over the last four years, despite very difficult circumstances. Jan Geert has great knowledge of the music industry and the cultural field in its entirety and has proven to be a strong builder. I look forward to hand him the reins in February!”
