Prestigious German award for MO
Metropole Orkest and chief conductor Jules Buckley will receive the Bremer Musikfest-Preis 2018. This award is presented as a special recognition for their contribution to the success of Musikfest Bremen.
In the past, Musikfest Bremen acknowledged this award to Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Janine Jansen, Jessye Norman and Anne Sofie von Otter. A quote from the jury report: “Since their debut in the Musikfest Bremen Jules Buckley and the Metropole Orkest have amplified their extraordinary position in Europe’s music scene. Adaptations which were partly as exclusively created for the festival were performed here for the first time and have particularly established the event series ‘Musikfest Goes Overseas’ as a long jazz night in the Überseestadt in Bremen. The already close relations between the Musikfest Bremen and artists from the Netherlands beautifully promote and demonstrate, with this longstanding cooperation that is unique in Germany, a new quality of neighbourly bonds with the power of music.”
Jules Buckley, chief conductor of Metropole Orkest: “We are honoured and happy to receive this award from this open-minded, international festival. We are looking forward to be back in Bremen in September this year to play three concerts. Our shows with renowned artists like Jacob Collier, Bokanté and China Moses can, without a doubt, count on a warm and grateful audience.”
Jan Geert Vierkant, managing director of Metropole Orkest: “This award shows the position of Metropole Orkest as an international top orchestra. That this orchestra is capable of reaching completely new audiences with their own programming is also recognized abroad. This makes Metropole Orkest ambassador and connector at the same time, not only at Musikfest Bremen and the BBC Proms, but also in the Netherlands at the Holland Festival, North Sea Jazz and the Amsterdam Dance Event. This make sus very proud.”
