Jules Buckley, dirigent
Hollie McNish, spoken word
‘Poetry Versus Orchestra’ is a collaboration, a book, an album and an experience full of modern poetry by acclaimed performance poet Hollie McNish. The album has brought together three masters in their field and fuses contemporary orchestral music co-composed and conducted by Jules Buckley, played by Metropole Orkest from the Netherlands, with Hollie’s inimitable spoken word to create a new piece of art for the listener.
Socio-critical, political, emotional and thought-provoking – Hollie’s spoken word is complemented by the powerful atmosphere created by the orchestra, allowing the unique sound to envelop and enrich the text. The album ranges from the blissfully happy experiences and thoughts of a mother, to the profound portrayal of a refugee.
As an official album launch Hollie and Metropole Orkest will be performing some of the pieces of the album to a live audience at Cadogan Hall on Wednesday 23 November. It is a free, ticketed event. Also performing (without orchestra) are poets Salena Godden and Vanessa Kisuule.
