This September, Metropole Orkest will honour the music of the great American Jazz singers during three concerts in Apeldoorn, Amsterdam and Enschede. The orchestra will be accompanied by three Dutch singers with completely different musical backgrounds. Jan Dulles, Jim van der Zee and Ruben Hein will perform the songs of the best crooners from then and now.
A crooner can be described as ‘a singer, typically a male one, who sings sentimental songs in a soft, low voice.’. Well known examples of crooners are Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Nat King Cole, Tony Bennett and Michael Bublé.
Next to the American and Canadian crooners, there is a number of amazing and surprising Dutch crooners as well.
Jan Dulles is mostly known for being the lead singer of the band the 3JS. Next to pop and folk music he controls the crooner repertoire like no other. Jan will be accompanied by Ruben Hein. With his characteristic and warm voice, more than 10 million streams on Spotify and shows at the biggest festivals, Ruben is indispensable in the Dutch music world. The threesome will be completed by Jim van der Zee. With his beautiful deep voice he won last year’s edition of The Voice of Holland. On his first album ‘Where I Come From’ he covered songs of his biggest idols. Now he’s working on a brand new album that will be full of his own music.
Chris Walden, who will also arrange some new pieces for this project, will conduct the orchestra during the three nights. This German composer, arranger and conductor worked with large orchestras before and has his own big-band in Los Angeles.
He worked with names like Diana Krall, Michael Bublé, Aretha Franklin, Paul Anka and Barbra Streisand.
