Jules Buckley, dirigent
Metropole Orkest conducted by Jules Buckley returns to Musikfest Bremen with a tribute to Aretha Franklin. Together with singer Sheléa this tribute celebrates The Queen of Soul’s career. Famous songs as her first hit song ‘Respect’ and classics like ‘(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman’ and ‘Think’ all receive full orchestral arrangements.
Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, was one of the world’s bestselling artists. She is an eight-time Grammy Award winner and was the first ever female artist in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The impact of her craft far exceeds just music. Aretha was an advocate for social change and her song ‘Respect’ became an anthem for the Civil Rights Movement and
women worldwide.
Franklin’s songs will be performed by singer/songwriter Sheléa. With living legends Stevie Wonder and Quincy Jones as some of her biggest fans, she has been making waves in the US music scene. Like Aretha Franklin, Sheléa grew up as a daughter of a pastor in Detroit, Michigan. Starting out her music career singing in church at the age of 11, Aretha Franklin’s music has always been a part of her life.
Jules Buckley pushes the boundaries of contemporary genres and orchestral music as a conductor, arranger and composer. He’s been working with the Metropole Orkest since 2007. After his tenure as a Chief Conductor (2013-2020), Jules accepted a role as Honorary Conductor at the start of the 2020/2021 season. With Jules as the creative catalyst Metropole Orkest collaborated with artists like Snarky Puppy, Laura Mvula, Jacob Collier, Michael Kiwanuka and many others.
